Walk in Love

As Christians, we often want to judge people but Jesus commanded us to walk in love (John 13:34-35).

In life, you are not always going to be able to control what other people do to you. At times people will do you wrong and the last thing you want to do is love them. However holding a grudge or being angry at someone is not really a choice as a believer. Just take a look at Ephesians 4:26-27 and Matthew 6:15. Yes, there will be a consequence to people’s actions and yes justice is important. But as lovers of God, we are called to forgive people and walk in love when they do us wrong.

A few years ago I made a mistake at work. It was my fault, but the client was so nasty about it and completely overreacted. What started as an innocent mistake turned into a personal attack on me. Everything in me wanted to fight back as I felt like they were out of line for behaving like that. I didn’t want to pray about it. I just wanted to defend myself and administer my own justice. However, I felt the Lord speak to me to walk in love. It was hard, but I made a decision to forgive them and walk in love. I committed to God to take responsibility for any wrong doing on my behalf, apologise and offer to pay for any inconvenience. Amazingly responding in love quenched all arguments. The end result worked out well and was far less stressful than it could have been. For me, it was a real life example of 1 Peter 4:8 where love covered a multitude of sins. I chose to walk in love and it brought peace to the whole situation.

Today remember to walk in love whether you feel like it or not.
