Just Keep Swimming

Do you remember the movie Finding Nemo? There’s a little fish in it named Dory—cheerful, slightly forgetful, but full of heart. Her motto? “Just keep swimming.”

You know what? That’s actually pretty solid advice.

Life doesn’t always go the way we imagined. Plans fall apart. Prayers go seemingly unanswered. Healing doesn’t always come when—or how—we expected. And in moments like that, the most spiritual thing you can do… is keep swimming.

Over the past three and a half years, I’ve had to live this out more times than I’d like to admit. My health has improved in many ways, but daily life still isn’t what it used to be. Simple tasks are harder. Some days are deeply frustrating. And I’ve asked the same question many of us have asked: “God, why haven’t You finished what You started? Your Word promises healing—so why the delay?”

It’s in these moments that I’ve had to anchor myself in truth. Not in how I feel. Not in how things look. But in what God has said. Galatians 6:9 has become a lifeline:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
So I keep going. I keep trusting. I do the best I can with what I have, believing that God is working behind the scenes—growing something beautiful even in the dirt of disappointment.

The truth is, we don’t get to control every outcome. But we do get to choose our response. We can surrender to despair—or we can cling to hope. We can shut down—or we can choose to keep going, with joy and peace as our companions. We can keep swimming.

That’s what I’ve chosen. What about you?

Is there an area in your life where you’re tempted to give up? Where the wait has felt too long or the burden too heavy?

Maybe today, God’s word to you is simple: Don’t quit. Just keep swimming.
